Discussing Microsoft DSLs + UML = ???

Earlier this month we covered Bill Gates mentioning the Oslo-project - Microsofts answer to the growing interest in DSLs. Steven Kelly posted an interesting observation on his blog, where he comments on Microsoft’s ideas to combine both UML and DSLs on an implementation level.

Putting UML before DSLs in this way isn’t just putting the cart before the horse: it’s putting the horse firmly into the cart — and pulling it yourself.

His post triggered quite an interesting discussion on the use of DSLs in a problem versus solution domain. Read the observations by Johan den Haan in his post “DSL in the context of UML and GPL” and Steven Kelly in his reaction “DSLs: to buy, to build or to sell?“.
